About Global Connect

In this 21st century world, technology and media surround us, encompassing subject matters like geography, economics, and politics. Understanding this information grants people the opportunity to become global citizens, who see themselves as part of a global community and understand that they are intertwined with global conditions and events. Global Connect seeks to make this information accessible to secondary school students, and empower them to become global citizens.

In Fall 2002, the School of Social Sciences began to connect its academic and human capital with selected schools within Orange County. Through 24 weeks of in-class lectures and interactive lessons, Global Connect introduced students to the concepts and realities of global trends, borderless social issues, and international organizations through multi-dimensional themes of globalization.

A critical component of Global Connect is the active involvement of undergraduate interns. Interns are trained to serve as the primary mentors to secondary school students both academically and socially. Interns are required to attend weekly curriculum briefings (Mondays, 5:00 - 6:00 pm in-person or zoom) and serve at assigned site schools on a weekly basis. Join Global Connect and make a difference!
